There was already a surplus of heavy water on the market (otherwise it wouldn't have been around 20 ISK/u). A bit less Liquid Ozone. But for a large tower, both of those combined was only 10% of the running cost of a tower per month (about 36M in total for a full PG/CPU load). So even if prices on them double, the cost of a tower only goes up 10%.
Overall, POS fuel costs are going to go *down* slightly (about 8% down for a large tower that previously used all of its CPU/PG). Small towers gained the most with a 20-30% reduction in operating costs. So again, even if fuel costs go up slightly, it ends up as a wash except that small towers will still end up cheaper.
(My bet for Jan 2011 is that a large tower will run about 400M/mo for fuel, maybe 450M/mo - which would be up from the traditional 300-350M/mo cost.) |

Mr Kidd wrote:You guys are forgetting that faction towers just got a 25% increase in fuel usage. Additional increase in demand.
I don't see that change sticking. If they switch to a more granular fuel pellet (1/100th the proposed size, change consumption to match) then they can easily give back the fuel savings of Faction/Sov. |

You first! Then I'll put mine on and undercut you a bit, and we can have a 0.01 ISK war all the way back down to 20.
(The main reason that there's so much 5x / 10x / 20x price increases at the moment is because HW was only 20 ISK/u, you could easily buy up a few million units for not much capital outlay, then relist it. For the same reason, nobody has bothered to do the same to Liquid Ozone, where demand really is likely to go up in hi-sec...) |

Unlikely, unless every ice belt in all of EVE gets interdicted for 3+ months (500-600 probably).
Heavy water is already heading down below 180 in Sinq Laison and as low as 60-65 in Jita.

And most of us with 2-3 months of fuel stockpiled away will just convert 1 month's of fuel stockpile into fuel pellets - without having to purchase new fuel off of the market. |

Oh, it will raise the price of LiqOz for sure - but not much more then 10-20% long-term. (On the flip-side, consumption and price of Isotopes is about to take a 10% drop since towers now only consume 400 instead of 450 per hour.)
As the price for ice products go up, more people will go back to mining ice in order to save money for their POS towers. If people need to mine more and more ice to met LiqOz needs, that will just help drive down the price of the various isotopes. |
